KNOWLEDGE BASE

Frequently Asked Questions

Expert insights into Virginia's premier thermal drone operations.

1 How does thermal imaging differ from standard drone photography?

Standard cameras capture visible light. Our thermal sensors detect heat signatures (infrared radiation). This allows us to identify water trapped under flat roofs, detect livestock in dense brush, or find failing electrical components that are invisible to the naked eye.

2 What is a "Radiometric" thermal report?

Unlike basic thermal images that only show "hot vs cold," a radiometric report contains temperature data for every pixel. This allows us to provide documented temperature differentials and localized anomaly callouts to assist in identifying areas of concern.

3 Are your pilots certified for night-time operations?

Yes. All Sky Sentry pilots are FAA Part 107 certified and fully compliant with FAA night-time flight regulations. Night-time is often the most critical window for thermal data collection, as the lack of solar loading ensures the most accurate identification of sub-surface anomalies.

1 What areas of Virginia do you provide on-site services for?

We primarily serve the Virginia Piedmont region, including Fauquier, Culpeper, Rappahannock, Madison, and Orange Counties. We also provide extended support for the NoVA corridor, including Prince William, Loudoun, and Fairfax Counties.

2 How does thermal drone technology protect my property?

By identifying sub-surface anomalies—such as moisture intrusion in roofing or overheating electrical circuits—we detect thermal differentials that may indicate sub-surface concerns. This proactive risk mitigation is standard for all our commercial and estate site operations.

3 Can you help locate missing livestock or pets?

Absolutely. Our high-resolution FLIR and Autel sensors can detect the heat signatures of cattle, horses, or pets even through thick forest canopies where visual drones are ineffective, significantly increasing recovery success rates.
